Neck weld flange

A weld neck flange consists of a flange and a short neck. The neck transitions to the pipe or equipment via a circular tube using a fillet weld. During welding, a fillet weld is required between the inner hole of the flange and the outer wall of the pipe.

  • Product Description
  • Structural Features

A weld neck flange consists of a flange and a short neck. The neck transitions to the pipe or equipment via a circular tube using a fillet weld. Welding requires fillet welding the flange inner hole to the outer wall of the pipe. Compared to a flat welding flange, this design enhances overall rigidity and load-bearing capacity.

    Sealing Form

Weld neck flanges offer various sealing surface types, including raised face (RF), flat face (FM), male face (M), tongue and groove (T), groove (G), and full face (FF).

    Specifications

    Nominal Diameter Range: DN10 - DN600.

    Pressure Rating: PN series is PN2.5 - PN40; Class series is Class150 - Class1500.

Common Materials: Carbon steel, chromium molybdenum steel, stainless steel (304, 316, 304L, 316L, 321, 347, etc.) and alloy steel.

    Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages: The short neck enhances flange strength and load-bearing capacity, suitable for relatively high-pressure pipelines; convenient installation, avoiding complex weld inspection procedures; lower cost than butt weld flanges, suitable for medium and low-pressure systems; the short neck design improves flange sealing and deformation resistance.

Disadvantages: Higher cost than flat welding flanges; its shape makes it more susceptible to damage during transport; weaker high-temperature and high-pressure performance, unsuitable for severe pressure fluctuations or harsh conditions; higher welding material consumption, susceptible to temperature cycle effects during long-term use.

    Manufacturing Standards

Common domestic manufacturing standards include GB/T 9116 - 2010 "Steel pipe flanges with weld neck", and the PN series (European system) and Class series (American system) in HG/T20592 - 20635 - 2009.

    Application Areas
