Butt weld flange

A butt-weld flange is a flange that is connected to a vessel or pipe using a fillet weld. It comes in two types: with neck and without neck. It is suitable for connecting medium and low-pressure vessels and pipes, and has the advantages of simple structure, easy installation, and low price.

  • Product Description
  • Structural Features

Plate welding flange: Usually consists of a flange and a pipe connection interface, with a relatively simple structure. The flange has evenly distributed bolt holes for connection to a mating flange via bolts. After the pipe is inserted into the flange bore, fillet welding is performed between the flange and the outer wall of the pipe.

Welding neck flange: Based on the plate welding flange, a short neck is added. The presence of the short neck improves the strength and load-bearing capacity of the flange, making it better suited for piping systems under certain pressures and temperatures.

    Specifications

Nominal diameter range: Generally DN10 - DN2000, meeting the connection needs of pipes from small to large diameters.

Pressure rating: Different levels such as PN0.25 - PN63 are available, covering various operating conditions from low to medium pressure.

Common materials: Include carbon steel (such as 20#, Q235, A105, etc.), stainless steel (such as 304, 316, 304L, 316L, etc.), alloy steel (such as 12Cr1MoV, 15CrMo, etc.), as well as low-temperature steel, duplex stainless steel, and special steels.

    Sealing Type

Various types of sealing surfaces are available, including flat face (FF), raised face (RF), male and female face (MFM), and tongue and groove face (TG). Among them, flat face and raised face seals are more common. Flat face seals are suitable for occasions with lower pressure and milder media; raised face seals are more widely used and can meet the sealing requirements of general industrial pipelines.

    Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages: Easier to align during welding assembly, convenient installation; readily available materials, simple manufacturing, relatively low cost, especially for plate welding flanges; meets the requirements for piping systems with lower pressure ratings, small pressure fluctuations, and low vibration, and is widely used.

Disadvantages: Relatively poor rigidity, not suitable for chemical process piping systems with supply and demand, flammability, explosiveness, and high vacuum requirements, as well as highly or extremely hazardous situations; under high temperature, high pressure, and large pressure and temperature fluctuations, the performance is inferior to other flange types such as butt welding flanges.

    Manufacturing Standards

Common manufacturing standards include national standards (such as GB/T 9119 - 2010, etc.), chemical industry standards (such as HG/T 20593 - 2009, etc.), mechanical industry standards (such as JB/T 81 - 1994, etc.), as well as American, Japanese, and German standards from different countries and industries.
